Set task priority

Set a task's priority to make it stand out and to sort or filter the checklist by importance.

Task priority menu with High selected

Set or clear a priority

Open the task menu and select Priority. If a colored exclamation mark already appears on the task, tap it to open the same choices. Then:

  • Select Low, Medium, or High.
  • Select a different level to change the priority.
  • Select the currently selected level again to clear the priority.
  • Use the small priority controls in the Task menu to set or clear a value without opening the full priority sheet.

The selected level appears as a colored exclamation mark on the task. Priority is task-specific; setting it does not change other tasks or automatically complete the step.

You can sort or filter a checklist by priority. While a sort or filter is active, you cannot drag tasks into a new order.

On a product release checklist, mark a deployment blocker as High priority and leave follow-up polish at Medium or Low. Sorting by priority then brings the blockers together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tap the selected priority again. The selection and priority icon are removed.

Does High priority create a due date?

No. Priority and due date are separate. Use task due dates when a step needs a date or time.
