Edit a routine
Use the routine editor to prepare the steps for future runs. Your changes appear in new checklists, not in checklists that were already created from the routine.

Organize the steps
- Add a task with a clear, action-focused name.
- Tap a task to configure its detailed behavior.
- Press and hold a step to reorder it when reordering is available.
- Indent a step beneath another to create a parent-and-subtask structure.
- Remove steps that no longer belong in the reusable process.
- Use task suggestions when the editor offers relevant next steps.
Keep each step small enough to complete or answer clearly. Put longer instructions in task notes so the task names remain easy to scan.
Save your changes
You need an internet connection and permission to change the routine. If Checklist is still saving, wait for it to finish before leaving the editor.
Use Play to test the routine as a checklist. If a step needs changing, return to the editor and update the routine before future runs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will editing a routine change an active checklist?
No. Existing checklist runs remain independent. Run the updated routine to create a new checklist with the latest steps.
Why can I view but not edit a routine?
Your role may let you run a shared routine without editing it. Ask the owner or a team administrator to update the routine or change your access.
