Use template suggestions in a checklist

A checklist created from a template can stay connected to that starting point. Your checklist remains independent, but you can return to the original template or add suggested steps from it.

A template-based checklist with task suggestions

Open the template options

Open the checklist menu. If the checklist and your access allow it, you will see View original template and Show task suggestions.

Suggestions appear below your tasks when the original template contains steps that are not already in the checklist.

Use the original and its suggestions

  • Select View original template to open it. A routine opens in the app; a public template opens in the browser.
  • Turn Show task suggestions on or off from the checklist menu.
  • Select the plus button beside a suggestion to add that step to your checklist.
  • Dismiss a suggestion you do not want, load more when available, or hide the suggestions.

Your checklist and the original template are separate. Adding, editing, completing, or dismissing a task in your checklist does not change the template.

If you started with a Travel Checklist, View original template takes you back to the prepared trip plan. Suggestions can show useful steps you did not add the first time.

Checklist leaves out steps that are already present, that you already added, or that you dismissed. These options appear only for compatible template-based checklists. You also need editor access to view the original.

You need an internet connection to load suggestions from the original template.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I not see task suggestions?

The checklist may not have a compatible original template, suggestions may be hidden, or there may be no steps left to suggest. Look for Show task suggestions in the checklist menu.

Will a template change update my checklist automatically?

No. Your checklist stays independent. Suggestions let you choose whether to add a step from the original template.
