Revenue Management SOP for the Hotel industry

Use this Hotel Daily Revenue Review Checklist to train staff, test knowledge, run daily operations, and improve service consistency.

Checklist Framework: Define → Train → Test → Do → Manage

DEFINE MODE

Turn your Hotel Daily Revenue Review Checklist into a clear, step-by-step checklist anyone on your Revenue Management team can follow. This becomes your single source of truth across training, daily operations, and management. Start by using this ready-made SOP and roll it out immediately, then customize or refine it as you go.

Procedure

You can customize each step, add notes, set required fields, and define data capture requirements.
Identify the completed business date, property, review owner and the time of the forward-booking snapshot. Flag reports that are provisional or incomplete.
Confirm the relevant night-audit or reporting stage is complete. Review whether previous actions were implemented and verified before interpreting their possible effect.
Use the same report definitions for the current result and comparator. Check room-revenue scope, rooms sold and available-room changes; do not mix room revenue with total hotel revenue.
Review the approved budget or forecast and suitable prior weekdays or event periods. Note holidays, renovations or inventory changes that make a comparison misleading.
Check which segments, room types or channels contributed to the change. Distinguish a mix shift from a change in the rate paid for a comparable stay.
Compare matching snapshots over the agreed dates and lead times. Separate new bookings, cancellations and group changes where the reports allow it; net pickup alone can hide opposing movements.
Check unexpected closures, unavailable room types, stale offers and material channel discrepancies. Confirm whether the issue is deliberate policy, a technical problem or an unverified report.
Consider relevant events, competitor positioning, group updates and remaining capacity. Use evidence and the property's decision rules rather than copying a competitor's visible price automatically.
State the action or decision to hold, affected dates and products, reason and approving role. Route actual rate or restriction updates through the controlled release process.
Name the owner and deadline for each action, how completion will be checked, and what new evidence would change the decision. Communicate guest-facing changes to the teams who need them.

Introduction

Use this hotel daily revenue review checklist to turn a daily revenue report into a short, recorded set of decisions. Check completed-day performance, upcoming pickup and selling exceptions, then assign the actions that need attention. This is a commercial review, not an income-audit reconciliation or an automated revenue report.

Read the measures together

Occupancy, average daily rate and revenue per available room describe different parts of room performance. Use consistent room-revenue and inventory definitions and explain changes in available rooms or segment mix before comparing periods. A higher average rate alone does not establish a better overall result.

Review what changed, not every report row

Focus the daily discussion on departures from the plan and changes since the previous review: cancellations, group movement, unusual pickup, unavailable room types or channel problems. Compare like weekdays and lead times where useful. A single day or a small booking count is a reason to check context, not proof that a pricing strategy has succeeded or failed.

Leave a decision log

Separate a proposed pricing or availability change from an approved change and from a verified release. Some days the right decision is to keep the current plan. Record the reason and the next review trigger so the same question is not reopened without new evidence.

Hotel Daily Revenue Review Checklist Frequently Asked Questions

Is a daily revenue review the same as a daily revenue report?

No. The report supplies figures; the review checks their meaning and records decisions, owners and follow-up. This page provides the review checklist, not a live PMS report or an auto-calculating spreadsheet.

Should rates change after every weak day?

Not automatically. Check booking lead time, demand, inventory, cancellations and comparable periods. A one-day result alone is not enough to diagnose why performance changed.

How is this different from income audit?

Income audit reconciles revenue and supporting transactions. The daily revenue review uses reliable performance and booking information to guide commercial actions. An unresolved reporting issue should be flagged rather than treated as a pricing signal.

How is this different from demand forecasting?

The daily review prioritizes current exceptions and decisions. A forecast update revises date-by-date expectations and assumptions for future demand. The review may trigger that deeper update.
