Build routines around service handoffs
Start with the points where responsibility changes: order to kitchen, kitchen to server, delivery to billing and service round to replenishment. Give each handoff a named role and a clear completion condition.
Keep room-service checks separate from restaurant opening. Both may use the same kitchen, but room access, guest privacy, delivery and room charges need their own controls. For minibar rounds, reconcile stock and package inclusions before authorizing a charge.
Add your approved food-safety rules, dietary-request escalation and equipment checks. Use the restaurant templates where the work is the same; the hotel does not need a duplicate version of every restaurant routine.
Save the procedures you need individually, then adapt them to your menu, room packages and service standards.
How it works
Define → Train → Test → Do → Improve
The Checklist Framework keeps every shift aligned:
Set the service standard
What it is: Agree order details, room-access rules, charge authority and collection expectations.
Do it here: Customize the relevant SOP with your outlets, contacts and room-package exceptions.
Rehearse the handoffs
What it is: Walk through where the kitchen, server and reception take responsibility.
Do it here: Use the procedure during a supervised practice order or minibar round.
Check decisions, not just recall
What it is: Discuss an unavailable item, an unanswered room or an unexplained stock difference.
Do it here: Use the room-service and minibar quizzes to review the next action and its explanation.
Use the routine during service
What it is: Complete the applicable steps and hand unresolved work to the right colleague.
Do it here: Save a Checklist for the job or a Template for repeated service rounds.
Fix the recurring service gap
What it is: Look for repeated missed collections, unclear inclusions or billing disputes.
Do it here: Update the affected step and brief the team before the next service period.
