Guest-room maintenance
Inspect room fixtures and equipment, record defects and confirm the engineering handback before availability is updated.

Plan the inspection and the room handback
Agree access and room status before work starts. Set inspection intervals using equipment instructions, usage and defect history rather than one schedule for every room and asset.
Record the symptom, location and work-order reference for each defect. Route repair work to the appropriately qualified person; completing an inspection does not authorize electrical, refrigeration or other specialist work.
After engineering checks, pass the outcome to the room-status owner. Housekeeping may still need to inspect cleanliness and presentation before reception can allocate the room. For plant rooms, public areas and other assets, create a separate routine from the approved maintenance plan rather than stretching the guest-room checklist.
Save the guest-room SOP individually. Add property-specific equipment checks and keep specialist repair instructions in your approved maintenance system.
How it works
Define → Train → Test → Do → Improve
The Checklist Framework keeps every shift aligned:
Set the inspection scope
What it is: Identify room equipment, safe access arrangements and the person who decides room availability.
Do it here: Adapt the guest-room SOP to room types, equipment and approved defect-routing rules.
Show a useful defect report
What it is: Demonstrate how to describe a fault and record its location without attempting an unauthorized repair.
Do it here: Walk through the checklist in a room with a supervisor and compare the handback information.
Check the release decision
What it is: Discuss unresolved faults and the difference between completing checks and clearing a room.
Do it here: Use the guest-room maintenance quiz to review access, escalation and room-release scenarios.
Inspect and hand back
What it is: Complete the inspection, record exceptions and communicate the engineering outcome.
Do it here: Save a Template for repeat inspections and use a fresh run for the room being checked.
Use recurring faults to refine checks
What it is: Review repeated defects and handoffs that left room status uncertain.
Do it here: Adjust the relevant inspection step or maintenance interval with the responsible engineering lead.
Benefits
Make maintenance handoffs easier
Keep planned equipment checks distinct from housekeeping cleanliness inspections.
Give repair teams a useful fault description and a traceable work-order reference.
Make unresolved defects visible at the room handback.
Adapt checks to the actual equipment and room types at your property.
Train staff on escalation without presenting the checklist as a repair qualification.
