Production Run Readiness Checklist

5.0/5 with 1 votes

Introduction

Use this readiness check to catch mismatched revisions, missing materials and unresolved setup prerequisites before a run begins. The line lead gathers the required evidence and the authorized person records a start or hold decision.

Use the approved work order, specification revision, setup instructions and inspection plan. Engineering and quality personnel define exact settings, measurements and acceptance criteria. Keep authoritative material, maintenance and quality records in their approved systems and reference them here.

A missing result is not a pass. Hold the affected run under the site process, record the blocker and assign the person who can resolve it. Recheck changed documents, substitutions and corrected first-piece results before seeking start authorization.

Separate checks capture line clearance, equipment release, tooling and measuring-resource evidence. A visible packaging/label starter check can be kept or removed to match the run. Form is available for reviewing the completed readiness record.

Keep different orders and product revisions separate; use the controlled quantity unit.
Compare the order with the actual line traveler and product identity.
Compare every controlling document. A newer file is not necessarily an approved revision; hold unresolved mismatches.
Use the exact asset or line identifier for the planned run.
Use the current order’s actual nonnegative quantity for this product and revision. Do not aggregate unrelated orders.
Use the exact controlled unit, such as pieces, metres or kilograms, for the planned quantity.
This checklist verifies approved records; technical setup and isolation use the machine-specific site procedure.
Compare each actual material ID/lot, approved status and required/available quantity with the work order. Record the controlled issue/pick-list reference and any shortage or substitution awaiting authority.
Verify the applicable prior-product, material, label and document clearance under the machine-specific site procedure. Add its reference or a gap where relevant; leave blank when the approved process requires no separate clearance record.
Confirm required release/status and current restrictions for the actual equipment with its authorized owner. Add the release reference or restriction here where useful; this field does not clear isolation or authorize restart.
For tooling used in this run, compare actual tool/fixture IDs and revision with the approved setup plan. Add readiness evidence or a gap where relevant; leave blank when no separate tooling applies.
Where the inspection plan uses measuring resources, verify the actual instrument IDs and required current status. Add evidence or a gap here when useful; leave blank when no such resource is required.
Keep this step when labels or packaging are issued for this run. Compare their part/revision and approved status with the order; record discrepancies in task notes. Remove this example before use if irrelevant.

Select the authorized person for this run; selection does not confer competence.
The approved engineering and quality process supplies methods, sample sizes and acceptance limits.
Use the approved inspection plan to establish whether first-piece or other start evidence is required. An inapplicable check needs a recorded approved basis; it is not a missing result.
Record its stable traceability ID under the approved procedure. If a first-piece check does not apply, record the approved basis in task notes.
When start inspection is required, reference the actual quality record with sample ID, measurements/units, approved criteria and qualified review. If it does not apply, record the approved basis here. Missing required evidence keeps the run held.
If a revision, material, tooling or inspection blocker remains, record affected scope, accepted owner and next review, and create an open corrective task. Leave blank when no blockers remain.
Recheck relevant changes or corrected results before seeking a new decision.
    Click to Assign task
Choose the qualified role permitted by the site process, and retain its approval reference in task notes.
Record only the designated authority’s decision for the identified run. This is neither a machine interlock nor an automatic product release.
Add the controlled approval reference when the site process uses one, or additional permitted-scope/restriction details. The actual decision maker, outcome and time are already recorded separately.
Enter the actual decision date and time.
Tell the operator the authorized start or hold scope, restrictions and re-review trigger. Add a receiving acknowledgment/reference or exception here if useful; routine communication does not require a duplicate transcript.

Before you begin

Use the approved work order, specification revision, setup instructions and inspection plan. Engineering and quality personnel define exact settings, measurements and acceptance criteria. Keep authoritative material, maintenance and quality records in their approved systems and reference them here.

Exceptions and handoffs

A missing result is not a pass. Hold the affected run under the site process, record the blocker and assign the person who can resolve it. Recheck changed documents, substitutions and corrected first-piece results before seeking start authorization.

Worked example

Order 451 calls for drawing revision D, while the line traveler shows C. The lead holds start, assigns the document owner and verifies the corrected revision before quality approval.

Review and improve

Review runs started with approved readiness record, revision/material mismatches found before start, unresolved start holds. Use recurring failures and staff feedback to revise the approved process; record the reviewer and revision date.

Engineering and quality owners supply the approved setup, inspection plan and decision authority. This generic readiness record does not certify regulated product release or operate machine interlocks.

Who it's for

A line lead establishes that the correct order, revision, materials, released equipment and approved first-piece results are ready before a production run starts.

How to use

  1. Save one checklist per work order/product revision and line setup, or tailor a reusable template. Play is the default; Form reviews the collected evidence and List supports actions.
  2. Record the order, approved revision, equipment, planned quantity and controlled unit.
  3. Check actual material lots, line clearance, equipment release, tooling and measuring resources separately. Tailor the visible packaging/label starter check to this run.
  4. Establish whether first-piece/start evidence is required by the approved plan. For applicable checks, identify the actual sample and reviewed quality record; otherwise record the approved nonapplicability basis.
  5. Keep unresolved prerequisites held. Record the authorized start/hold decision, approval reference, actual time and operator handoff, including the trigger for re-review.

Follow the machine-specific site procedure. This checklist supplies no settings, tolerances or equipment-release authority.

Related workflows

Record an adverse finding accurately, then create a separate open corrective task with an owner and due date. An answered observation is not approval to start, accept or release work.

Required answers capture the essential identity, decisions or observed results. Supporting references and exception notes can stay blank when no additional entry is useful. Complete applicable checks under the site/project process; optional fields do not waive its requirements.

Production Run Readiness Checklist Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a machine setup procedure?

No. It verifies that the applicable approved setup and release steps are complete. Operators must follow the specific machine and site procedures.

Which first-piece measurements should we take?

Use the inspection plan approved for the product and revision. This template does not supply tolerances, sample sizes or measurement methods.

Can a completed checklist start the line?

Only the designated authority can authorize production under your process. Record that decision; do not treat completion as an automatic equipment interlock or release.

What if first-piece inspection does not apply?

Use the approved inspection plan to record that basis. If it is required, the actual reviewed evidence must be present before start authorization; leaving an optional field empty does not waive the requirement.
