The best starting point for Harry Potter
Start with Philosopher’s Stone, called Sorcerer’s Stone in the US, and follow the eight Harry Potter films in release order. Their main story follows the same sequence, so there is no separate rearrangement to learn for Harry’s journey.
The sequence is Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Part 1, then Deathly Hallows Part 2. The last two films adapt the seventh novel, which is why seven books became eight films.
Where Fantastic Beasts fits
Fantastic Beasts is a separate three-film prequel series following Newt Scamander and an earlier generation of the wizarding world. For a first visit, finish Harry’s story and explore these films afterwards. That is also their release sequence: Where to Find Them, The Crimes of Grindelwald, then The Secrets of Dumbledore.
For a chronological rewatch of all 11 films, put those three first, followed by the eight Harry Potter movies. The story-order column uses that full 11-film sequence. The series label makes it easy to distinguish your eight-film Harry Potter milestone from the complete 11-film record.
Plan your viewing nights
One film per evening gives Harry’s story eight sessions, with three more for Fantastic Beasts. For a four-session rewatch, pairing consecutive Harry Potter films keeps the order simple: 1–2, 3–4, 5–6 and the two Deathly Hallows films. Those double features are long evenings; use the approximate runtimes and leave time for breaks.
For family viewing, choose the pace around the people watching rather than a target date. The later films become more intense, and local age classifications and content advice can help you decide when each film fits. First-time viewers will get more from the mysteries by saving detailed plot summaries and character biographies until afterwards.
