Choose your washer and dryer before the plans are completed for your home.
Purchase a high-efficiency washing machine and reduce water and energy usage up to 50 percent.
Know the size of your machines - your cabinet designer needs to make sure the washer is on the correct side.
Purchase a longer cord or longer hoses that allow you to better arrange your appliances.
Place a built-in wastebasket next to the dryer.
Keep in mind whether you are left or right-handed when determining the location for the built-in ironing board.
Consider an open area under the countertop to accommodate either a dog crate or a litter box.
Use tall cabinet for hanging clothing and/or storage of the ironing board, mop, broom, or vacuum.
Use open portion in bottom of upper cabinet above washing machine for handy access to detergent, fabric softener, etc.
Use long hanging space for hanging up clothing as it is removed from the dryer.
Use short hanging space above the laundry tub for drip drying of bathing suits, bras, etc.
Plan to install a folding hanger.
Install a table or countertop in your laundry room on which to fold clothes
Have more than one bin to organize your laundry by color and cycle.
Install a utility sink in your laundry room for hand-washing delicate items.
Add ample lighting.
Hang wire shelving on concrete walls.
