House Cleaning Checklist

  • Basic Cleaning Supplies For Spring House Cleaning

    • Get rid of the old T-shirts and bar towels and get 2 good Micro Fiber cloths. One for wet use and one for dry.

    • Get a good scrub brush that's tapered on one end to get into corners and make sure it has a grip you can handle.

    • Save a tree and get a squeegee for your windows instead of using rolls and rolls of paper towels.

    • Get an extendable duster to reach into corners and get ceiling fan blades.

    • You'll need a good pair of rubber gloves that can stand up to some punishment.

    • Throw away last year's ratty toilet brush and start fresh.

    • You'll need a broom and dustpan.

    • Find an old toothbrush or two for scrubbing tight corners.

    • Get a caddy to carry your cleaning supplies.

    • Get a good general purpose cleaner in a spray bottle.

    • Put a mild abrasive cleaner in your caddy, too.

    • Get a dishwashing liquid with a grease cutter.

    • Include a small box of baking soda for counter tops.

    • Get a good quality, odorless oven cleaner.

  • Spring House Cleaning List - The Kitchen

    • Empty all cupboards and wipe out crumbs and dust.

    • Reorganize cupboards and use storage containers to hold cereal grain products that have been open for awhile to prevent rodents and insects.

    • Clean the cupboard under the sink and check for any evidence of water damage.

    • Empty refrigerator and freezer to clean and check dates on everything before you put it back in.

    • Take your oven racks out and clean the inside of the oven, the racks, and the the drip pan, with oven cleaner.

    • If your stove top has removable coils, remove them and the burner pans for cleaning.

    • Replace your burner pans if necessary so you'll have a bright, shiny new oven when you're done.

    • Scour the sink.

    • Use dishwashing detergent with a degreaser to clean the hood above your oven.

    • Clean the outside of all cabinets and appliances with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser.

    • Pull all appliances out from the wall and clean the backs. If necessary use your vacuum around the coils on the back of the refrigerator to remove dust build up.

    • Sweep and scrub the floor under all appliances before you push them back.

    • Empty, clean and organize all drawers.

    • Wipe down all small appliances and put them away somewhere if not used on a regular basis.

    • Remove clutter from countertops.

    • Clean window treatments and wash windows with multi-purpose cleanser.

    • Clean finger prints on walls around light switches and power outlets with multi-purpose cleanser.

    • Empty and clean trash cans and recycling bins.

    • Sweep and mop the floor.

    • Clean shower walls/tub surround and bathtub with a mild abrasive cleanser to remove soap scum.

    • Wash or replace shower curtain and liner.

    • Clean toilet.

    • Empty drawers and cupboard and clean. Reorganize as you put everything back in.

    • Get rid of old linens that you no longer use.
