Planting Areas
Check on the condition of your plants during spring.
Covering ground with organic mulch (it helps soil retain moisture).
After the first hard freeze, cut back plant branches and cover them with mulch.
Dead-head flowers to encourage new growth.
Insect Control
Wash plants clean with a strong stream of water.
Get ladybugs to get rid of bugs and worms.
Use chemicals when necessary, be careful when applying them.
Consider using household "natural" chemicals to control insects.
Weeding
Remove the entire weed by its roots.
Use herbicides, when necessary.
Keep weeds to a minimum by covering the soil with an inch or two of mulch.
Use grass to choke out any other weeds.
Mowing
Remove all leaves from grassy areas.
Don't cut grass too short, longer grass is healthier.
Cuts grass into tiny bits and returning it to the lawn nutriens the soil and reduces the need for fertilizer.
