Elopement & Small Outdoor Wedding Checklist

  • Some bridal shops have intense timelines and require you have your dress 6+ months in advance with multiple fittings. But have no fear! There are a ton of great places to buy a dress, from local to online. You can even search for “white maxi dress” online and avoid the wedding pricing.
  • It is imperative to have comfortable, all-day wear shoes for an elopement. If you’re hiking out to your destination this is even more important! Make sure they fit well, are comfortable, and something you don’t mind being photographed in!
  • If you’re getting married somewhere with the potential for cold, windy, or wet weather make sure to bring warm layers, and something you’d be happy to be photographed in.
  • Don’t forget the pieces that have personal significance!
  • Book your dream photographer! Someone who shares your vision and helps bring that vision to life!
  • Do you need/want an officiant or do you plan to “self-solemnize”?
  • Is a bouquet important to you? What about an archway for your ceremony? Or flowers on your canoe or bike? Can you get one near your location or pick it up in a city before you get to your location?
  • DIY or professionally done?
  • Do you want a first dance? If so, will you use a recording or hire a musician?
  • DIY or private chef/catering? Reserving the patio of your favorite area eatery?
  • Write your vows, gather any objects of personal significance, and buy your wedding bands. Also, consider a surprise for your partner like reading letters from family members, playing a special song, or getting each other gifts. Make it exactly what you want!
  • Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do the things you really want to do in your day without rushing or any stress. Also chat with your photographer about planned shots, the best time of day for light. Don’t forget to eat, drink and be married!
