Selecting a Wedding Planner

• Find out how many wedding planners are in your area.
• Check the services of the wedding planners.
• Figure out what type of wedding planner you need.
• Figure out your wedding budget.
• Narrow down your search and call up to five wedding planners.
• Book appointments with three wedding consultants.
• Ask questions about experience, credentials, certifications etc
• Narrow down your quest to the top two and ask any further questions.
• If possible, attend a wedding she or he has planned.
• Talk to other clients the wedding planner has worked for.
• Get in writing an explanation of exactly what the planner's rates cover.
• Make a final decision and sign the contract.
• Schedule your initial meeting with your wedding consultant.

Your Wedding Planner

• Should have years of experience.
• Recognizes the vendors suitable for your vision and budget.
• Should be experienced in smoothing bumps that come up in planning.
• Faces challenges and overcomes them.
• Listens to your ideas and can help you implement them.

Wedding Planner Interview

• Ask how long the wedding planner has been planning weddings.
• Ask if he/she is member of a professional event planning organization.
• Ask how much he/she charges.
• Ask about the specific hours that he/she can be reached.
• Ask how many weddings he/she has planned.
• Ask for references from couples and vendors that he/she has worked with in the past.
• Ask if he/she will attend the meetings with the vendors and look over the contracts.
• Ask about an assistant or backup plan in case of emergency.
• Ask if he/she will direct the rehearsal as well as help with the rehearsal dinner.
• Ask if he/she can explain a last minute emergency that occurred at a wedding in the past and how he/she handled the situation.
• Ask when he/she will arrive and leave on the day of the wedding.
• Aski if he/she will provide regular written updates.
• Ask questions about ideas for your wedding.
• Get advice on how to accomplish one or two ideas you have.
